What to Expect at Your First Visit to Taproot
Welcome to Our Office!
When you arrive at Taproot Chiropractic, our friendly team will greet you and help you check in. If you haven't already completed our online paperwork, please arrive 15 minutes early for your appointment. We'll provide the necessary forms on-site to ensure your visit runs smoothly. Your visit begins with a few quick steps—like taking your vitals—before you're guided to a comfortable treatment room.
Your provider will:
-
Take a Detailed History: Understanding your current complaint, how it started, how it affects your daily life, and what your goals are for care is the foundation of effective treatment. We’ll ask the right questions to uncover potential contributing factors, even if the exact cause isn’t clear.
-
Perform a Thorough Exam: This allows us to assess your specific needs and ensure a safe and effective approach to your treatment.
-
Explain the Technique: Whether it's chiropractic adjustments, acupuncture, dry needling, TRT, activator methods, McTimoney, or another specialized technique, you'll know what to expect before treatment begins. If you have specific areas that make you feel nervous or are sensitive to touch, let us know—we can adjust our approach and use a mix of techniques to ensure your comfort throughout the treatment.
-
Provide Treatment (If Appropriate): We always strive to provide treatment on your first visit unless a red flag suggests the need for additional testing, such as X-rays, MRIs, or other diagnostic tools.
If you've come to our office with a condition we cannot treat, or if we identify red flags that require additional specialized care, we will refer you to the appropriate provider—whether that is a medical doctor, another comprehensive practitioner, or a trusted bodyworker in our area.
*If you're interested in a specific treatment, like dry needling or Class IV laser therapy, please let our staff know when scheduling so we can ensure enough time for your visit*
Post-Treatment Care: What to Expect
After your treatment—whether chiropractic or acupuncture—you might receive passive or active rehab treatments to reduce pain and support your healing. Our goal is always to minimize discomfort and help you feel better and function better as quickly as possible.
What You Might Experience After Treatment:
While not everyone will experience these sensations—and they do not occur after every visit—it's important to know what to expect:
-
Mild Soreness: Similar to how you might feel after a good workout. This is normal and usually resolves within 24 to 72 hours. Any soreness typically improves within the first few visits as your body adapts to care.
-
Fatigue: As your body adjusts and begins the healing process, you may feel more tired than usual. Healing requires rest, this is your body’s way of telling them to slow down and allow the process to unfold.
If you experience significant discomfort or if your symptoms persist beyond 72 hours, please contact our office. One of our treating providers will reach out to assess your situation and provide guidance on next steps.
The Benefits You Might Notice:
Many of our patients experience positive changes following treatment, such as:
-
Improved Mobility: You may notice an increase in your range of motion or a reduction in stiffness.
-
Reduced Pain: Many patients feel relief immediately or within a few sessions.
-
Better Sleep: As your body finds balance, rest and recovery often improve.
-
A Sense of Well-Being: Chiropractic and acupuncture treatments often promote a relaxed, balanced feeling as your body moves toward optimal function.
Active Care: What to Expect from Your Care Plan
At Taproot Chiropractic, our Active Care plans are designed to get you feeling better as efficiently as possible—providing only the care you need without unnecessary visits.
Most of our treatment plans start at twice a week, except in severe cases where more frequent visits may be needed initially. As your condition improves, the frequency of care will taper down to ensure your progress is maintained without over-treating.
Your personalized care plan will include:
-
Your Diagnosis: What we found during your exam, including the specific condition or conditions contributing to your symptoms.
-
Your Prognosis: How long we expect it will take to achieve your goals, including an estimated timeline for recovery and improvement.
-
Treatment Recommendations: Whether you need adjustments, acupuncture, muscle work, nutritional counseling, herbal formulas, sauna sessions, decompression, laser therapy, or a combination of services.
-
A Path Forward: We'll outline how frequently you’ll need care and what to expect along the way.
Our treatment plans are structured based on your condition and goals, with regular re-exams to ensure that your care is progressing as expected. If adjustments to your care plan are needed, they will be made thoughtfully and only after thorough evaluation.

Wellness Care: Maintaining Your Progress
Once your active care plan is complete and your condition has stabilized, we transition many of our patients into Wellness Care. The goal of wellness care is to maintain your progress, prevent relapses, and support your overall health and well-being. The truth is, most people can’t—or won’t—completely change the habits and activities that brought them to us in the first place. That’s where wellness care comes in. By maintaining regular visits, we can help slow down or even prevent future damage and injury, keeping you feeling your best while living your life to the fullest.
Wellness Care Frequency:
-
Once a Week to Once a Month: Depending on the chronicity of your condition, we recommend wellness visits ranging from once a week to once a month.
-
Listening to Your Body: While many patients benefit from monthly visits, it’s important to listen to your body. If you’re experiencing discomfort, tightness, or pain—even in wellness care—schedule an appointment. Our team will evaluate your condition and adjust your care plan as needed.
Why Wellness Care Matters:
-
Preventive Approach: Helps manage the daily stresses and strains that impact your body.
-
Support for Active Lifestyles: Whether it’s work-related posture issues or sports-related stress, regular visits help keep you feeling your best.
-
Early Detection: Regular check-ins allow us to catch and address minor issues before they become significant problems.
