Embracing Health and Gratitude this Autumn

Written by Dr. Hannah Cork

Dr Hannah here, happy Autumn everyone!

The weather is finally getting cooler, the days are getting shorter, and the holidays are right around the corner! As Thanksgiving looms on the horizon, we naturally start thinking about what we are grateful for.

There is a common saying in English, ’at least you have your health!’  Often this is said sarcastically as a joke, or a reminder that a situation is not as bad as it seems. But every now and then we experience a significant health issue that really brings home to us how important ‘being well’ really is. In our busy lives it is all too easy to take our bodies’ ability to function completely for granted. But a ‘slipped’ disc, sprained ankle or severe migraine can soon remind us that we don’t appreciate what we’ve got until it’s gone!

The human body is an amazing thing. It can withstand all sorts of pressures, activities and environmental stresses. It is constantly self-healing and self-regulating. But it can only continue to do so successfully if it is given the correct tools for the job and is being taken care of! By this I really mean the basics, regular hydration, nourishing food, physical exercise and regular adjustments to keep things functioning at their optimum level. Here at Taproot, we have a great selection of supplements, herbs and supportive therapies (even a healthy coffee!), plus we can advise on and recommend healthy lifestyle changes that are specific to your personal circumstances, and then support you in making those changes. That way you can keep your body working at its best and you can also keep being grateful for your health.

On a personal note (and I think all the Doctors would agree), I am grateful to have such an incredibly fulfilling job, a job that never feels like work, what a rare thing! We are also grateful to all of you, our wonderful patients and community, thank you for choosing us to be a part of your health journey. We hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
